Geschichte Das Akademietheater wurde in den Jahren 1911 bis 1913 von den Architekten Fellner und Hellmer und Ludwig Baumann erbaut, und ist seit 1922 die zweite Spielstätte des Burgtheaters. Nach langjähriger Intervention der Burgschauspieler, die sich eine zweite, intimere Spielstätte wünschten, gelang es Max Paulsen, das Theater der Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst, kurz Akademietheater genannt, als Kammerspielbühne dem Burgtheater anzugliedern. Die Eröffnung fand am 8. September 1922 mit Goethes "Iphigenie auf Tauris" statt. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, den das Gebäude unbeschädigt überstand, wurde am 19. Mai 1945 unter Raoul Aslan mit Ibsens "Hedda Gabler" wiedereröffnet. 1974 und 1999 wurde das Akademietheater umgebaut und technisch modernisiert.

For many years the actors of the Burgtheater had tried to make their dream of a second, more private stage come true. Finally Max Paulsen succeeded in getting the ¿Theater der Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst¿ (Theater of the Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts), briefly named ¿Akademietheater¿, as a studio theater for the Burgtheater. On September 8th, 1922 the place was inaugurated with Goethe¿s Iphigenia in Tauris. On May 19th, 1945 the theater, which survived World War II without damage, was reopened with Ibsen¿s Hedda Gabler under the direction of Raoul Aslan. In 1974 and 1999 the Akademietheater was renovated and technically modernised.
